Kerekere at Melbourne University sells coffee, lets customers decide how the profits are distributed and provides employment for young people.
Kerekere lets you decide whether the profits go: the Owner; Environmental Causes; Social Causes or Cultural Causes.
We worked with Kerekere to provide them with some seating, cushions, tables, a wind break screen and a profit distribution box. The furniture is a modular design that can be used horizontally as benches and tables, or vertically as stools. At night the furniture stacks into a scaffold that doubles as a seat during the day. The cushions are made from hessian sandbags and were sewn by us in the studio.
If you want to try some of the famous Kerekere coffee, sit in the dappled sunlight and read the paper head down to the north west corner of the John Medley building at Melbourne Uni.
