Gorman Ship Shop

When Lisa Gorman asked if we could turn a shipping container into a shop, the answer was never going to be no. There’s something architects can’t resist about those simple steel boxes; honest, modular, endlessly adaptable.

What followed was a genuinely collaborative effort: two architects, a carpenter and his apprentices, a steel fabricator, two transport companies, a sustainability consultant, and the entire Gorman team all pulling in the same direction.

The result was the Ship Shop, proof that constraints, when embraced rather than fought, tend to produce the most interesting architecture.
