2 in 1 House

The house – heritage listed single front; the brief – a modest house, enough for the family but not overtly extravagant.

The site was small and intimate – which steered a lot of the functionality in the in-built joinery; as every opportunity to create storage was taken, including space for an extremely large book collection. Being a family with two little girls all the spaces have been designed to be fluid and expansive, with each sliding door disappearing to create an open space yet providing the option of closing down each room to create private nooks – for when that solitude is necessary. The girls’ room is separated by a large timber veneered siding door, allowing privacy as the girls grow older but providing them with the bonding needed during their younger years.
